The Fremantle house is an original 1925 bungalow, extended in the 1990s to accommodate a growing family of five. Set in a very leafy street and surrounded by other period homes, the home now comprises of four bedrooms, two living areas and still allows ample outdoor space for living and a pool. The original lead light front door that opens to reveal a transformed much loved family home that now reflects a Mid-century modern feel.

The owners had a clear idea of the style they wanted. They loved Mid-century design. It was very clear from the first meeting that they had an appreciation for Danish furniture, so we hunted through stores in Perth and interstate for the perfect pieces. The house also needed to be functional, easy and child-friendly. With three children they wouldn’t have time to worry about dirty shoes on the hallway runner, so our choices had to reflect this.

The palette is very neutral so the warmth of timber plays a very big part in this design. Combined with pops of bright bold colours from acquired art works to add a sense of fun. As the design had a lot of timber finishes it was important to use glass, ceramic and soft textiles to balance and add interest.
